Presenters: Dr. Thomas (Lecturer in Japanese Language & Culture, Department of East Asian Languages & Cultures - University of Kansas)

Thomas McDonald is a lecturer in the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures at the University of Kansas, where he teaches courses on Japan. He received his Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from Stanford in 2023, with his doctoral research examining how Japanese-Korean and Austrian-Slovene ethnic minority writers explored their heritage languages and cultures amid political precarity in South Korea and the former Yugoslavia during the 1980s. An American of Bolivian heritage, Thomas translates from Japanese, German, French, Slovene, and Spanish.
