Considered most broadly, I study the spatialization of modernity, focusing on the historical linkages of anthropology and imperialism with our current age of globalization. In a related vein, I am researching the inefficacy of postcolonial critique on American majority discourse, attempting to reconcile notions of American exceptionalism with theories of postcolonial nationalism. Geographically, this project centers on American expansion into the Pacific.
